How often have you seen an ad that plays on our fears? Is it everyday? Think about it........how many ads did you see today about insurance? Those companies use the ploy that something bad WILL happen one day. Of course they want you to pay lots of money to them just to prepare for that one day. Even state governments have laws that you must carry drivers liability insurance, which of course is making those insurance companies very happy.
Not only do insurance companies play into our fears but some companies resort to statistics to scare us to death. Take for example those TV commercials for colon and body cleanse products. They start their ads off with a statistic like 75% of the population has a parasitic infection and they don't know it. Then they go on to claim that your body requires that your colon be "cleansed." Here is what they have not told you. That 75% is part of the world's entire population so they are comparing you to someone who is living in a parasitic jungle with no medical attention and no clean water to drink. Next they don't tell you the plain fact that intestinal worms give off a toxin that will make you very sick so you WILL know that you have something seriously going on inside you. Of course they will not tell you that in order to get rid of worms you will need some strong human wormer from the doctor and not their product which does nothing but give you diarrhea.
One of the most well known modern day scares is companies that protect you against identity theft. What those companies don't tell you is that you are not liable for purchases you did not make in the first place and that you can also keep an eye on your own credit report at no charge.
Don't fall victim to those scare tactics and others like them. Do some investigation. Google the product or company for more info. Become an educated consumer.
