The cost of my commute to work

With the price of gas going up each week I was thinking about get a gas or electric scooter to get to work. Right now I commute about 12 miles each way. My little car gets about 30 miles to the gallon. I am using about $3.50 worth of gas each day just to get to and from work. With gasoline going up to about $7.00 a gallon by the end of the summer that will be about $6.00 or more each day, or roughly $30.00 just to get to work and back. Now I have not added the trips to the grocery store or doctor and that would add another 24 to 40 miles a week if I do everything in one big trip. So I reckon that $40.00 a week should cover gas for me, but wait I only earn $11.00 an hour and that is considered good pay in my area of the country. I have to work 4 or more hours just to pay for the commute! The cost of gasoline is taking about 10% of my gross pay. What is the cost of your commute?

You have it easy! My costs are close to $500 a month. I have a F250 that I need for my job and the company does not reimburse me for it. I commute about 50 miles each way and use the truck for short deliveries of about 15 miles during the day at work. The short trips they pay mileage for be not the trip to bring the truck in. I have a choice of not using my truck and getting fired or bringing in the truck and keeping my job.
My gasoline costs are about 25 to 30% of my pay.
