Saving money by "doing it yourself"
Most people can save money by fixing something that needs repair rather than running out and buying a replacement. I am the electronic savvy one in the family. If it can be soldered, mended or re-programed I am the one to ask. The mechanical stuff my husband does. To let you know how long I have been doing the "electronic repair thing", I grew up in a household that was headed by by father the electronics engineer and my mother the electronics assembler. Naturally when PC's came into their own, many of my friends had parents that were in on the cutting edge of the technology. It was quite common to get computer parts and make your own computer. I, in fact built my first one in the early 1980's with pirated chips (yep we had access to that stuff too). Times have changed for computers and you don't have to do that kind of stuff anymore but there is a company that offers a kit with instructions on How to Build a Computer. It is a great way to get what you want in a computer at a much lower cost than retail. It is something worth looking into to save some money.
